Animation, the original "motion picture," existed long before films were shown on the big screen. Under the guidance of filmmaker Aaron Hughes, children will learn the very basics of animation to create their own hand-held animation machines. They will then use these animation instruments to collaborate on a short film. By using spinning cylinders, rotating slotted disks, and other original techniques, each student will take home their own cartoon contraptions, including flipbooks, thaumatropes, zoetropes, phenakistoscopes (look it up!), and their completed film!
