KIDS MAKE MOVIES! Sign up for NYICFF's one- and two-week filmmaking camps during the March, April and Summer School breaks. Classes are offered in a variety of animation and live action filmmaking techniques for ages 6 to 16. Students will conceive, storyboard, write, shoot, draw, model, create sets, and perform on camera to create a completed short film. Previous workshops have included Create-a-Cartoon, Multimedia Storytelling, Moviemaking Master Class, Rotoscope Animation, Claymation and more!
JULY 8-19, 2013 (TWO WEEKS) - REGISTRATION NOW OPEN
Workshops take place Monday through Friday, 10am to 4pm (early drop-off and late pick-up available).
Class sizes are limited and are expected to sell out. All films made during the March and July workshops will be shown at the 2014 Festival.
MULTIMEDIA STORYTELLING
Recommended for Ages 6-9

There are countless ways to animate a story. This workshop will focus on storytelling and give students the opportunity to experiment with various forms of animation including cutout, stop-motion, whiteboard and drawn animation. Taught by filmmaker Aaron Hughes (Backwards, NYICFF 2011), students will choose which medium best enhances their particular story, and work together by weaving all techniques into one collaborative multimedia short film. All attendees will receive a DVD of the final film.

STOP-MOTION 101
Recommended for Ages 9-12

Claymation, cutout, found objects- the sky is the limit when it comes to stop-motion. In this class, students will learn animation fundamentals as they script, storyboard, design and animate their own short film. Once animated, students will then add audio to complete the project. Taught by filmmakers from Little Airplane Studios (Meet the Small Potatoes, Wonder Pets, and Go Baby!), this class will take an in-depth look at all types of stop-motion. All attendees will receive a DVD of their final film.

MOVIE-MAKING MASTERCLASS

Experience filmmaking from start to finish! Taught by the Story Pirates (Diary of a Blueberry, Jaques and the Evil I) and beginning with improvisation games, students will discover and hone their acting, writing and directing abilities. Then, working together as a production team, students use professional equipment to shoot and light digital video, record audio, organize a production, and work on a film shoot. Concepts covered in the class include (but are not limited to) scene writing, acting, directing, shot composition, post-production, scoring, and film analysis. All students will receive a DVD of the final film.

Full scholarships are available for every workshop. Students who qualify for free and reduced priced lunch are eligible to apply. To be considered for a scholarship, students should submit an application and teacher recommendation.
