KIDS MAKE MOVIES! Sign up for NYICFF's one- and two-week filmmaking camps during the February, April and Summer School breaks. Classes are offered in a variety of animation and live action filmmaking techniques for grades K-9. Students will conceive, storyboard, write, shoot, draw, model, create sets, and perform on camera to create a completed short film. Workshops have included Create-a-Cartoon, Multimedia Storytelling, Moviemaking Master Class, Rotoscope Animation, Claymation and more!
Classes are held Monday-Friday
Unless otherwise noted, all classes are from 10am to 4pm
Extended care is available from 8am to 10am and from 4pm to 6pm. The charge for extended care is $5/hour per student.
There will be a one hour lunch recess each day - students should bring a packed lunch.
All students will receive a DVD copy of and a link to their final film.
JULY 7-18, 2014: STOP-MOTION ANIMATION - TWO-WEEK WORKSHOPS!
Workshops are in partnership with The Good School and will be held at The Pine Street School (25 Pine Street, between William and Nassau).
Workshops are held Monday through Friday, 10am to 4pm (early drop-off and late pick-up available). Class sizes are limited and expected to sell out. Films made during the July workshops will be screened at the 2015 Festival.
CREATURE FEATURE: AN ADVENTURE IN ANIMATION
Recommended for students entering grades K-3
Our youngest filmmakers will learn the basics of animation from claymation to hand-drawn and cutout stop-motion. Using a variety of materials and techniques ranging from drawing and sculpting to painting and design, small production groups will work collaboratively to create complete animated worlds. Students will use professional-grade animation software to complete their short film. The final film will be available on DVD and for sharing online.

Recommended for students entering grades 3-5
Each week, students will work collaboratively to create one of a two-part series that leads participants through the animated filmmaking process, including storyboarding set and character design, and construction. They will learn how to set up and break down all tech equipment and will use professional-grade animation software Dragonframe (used on the films ParaNorman and FrankenWeenie). The filmmakers will experiment with various forms of animation including cut-out, stop-motion, whiteboard and drawn animation. The final film will be available on a DVD and for sharing online.

MASTERCLASS: THE ART OF THE MUSIC VIDEO
Recommended for students entering grades 6-9
Learn filmmaking from start to finish! During this two-week exploration of music video production, students will collaborate with a local band to create an animated music video. Through hands-on experience, they will engage in the complete filmmaking experience from story boarding, set, character and costume creation to the stop-motion animation process using the professional-grade animation software Dragonframe. Costumes will be developed with the help of a guest fiber artist and students will also participate in some post-production editing using Final Cut Pro 7. The final short film will be available to share online and as a DVD.
